London Romans FC : about us & squad

About Us

London Romans was formed in June 2006 and it was initially founded and managed by Leo Minnion and Graham Megennis. The General Manager is currently Beyz. We have in the past trained at both Finsbury Park and Groveland's Park.

We currently usually train on :

Sundays 11-a-side

Sundays from around 1.30pm at Finsbury Park (Streetmap: click here).
Finsbury Park is served by several Manor House (Piccadilly Line) and Finsbury Park (Piccadilly Line/Victoria Line/National Rail) and also the 29 and 141 buses stop outside the park. For latest training and game schedules, please see our fixtures & results page.

Thursday 5-a-side

We have signed up to the London Unity Football League (LUFL) 2007-8 in which we compete against other teams based in London. In addition, we also play regular friendly matches and tournaments with other friendly teams up and down the country. We won the 11 a side London Titans FC Tournament in 2006.

Beyz, General Manager

Beyz  

London Romans is now under my new management and I am committed to building a stronger club.

Beyz has been General Manager since September 2007 and with the invaluable assistance of the previous administration, he has turned the team around into a competitive and forward driven force. With a management team supporting him, Beyz believes in "Football For All" equal opportunities (ability/background and age) of where everyone can come to train and play for fun.

Gordon & Merou, Coaching Team

Gordon  

Gordon trained as a dancer with Rambert and London Contemporary Dance Theatre, being an actor dancer with the Scottish Opera, Glasgow Grand, E.N.O. Glyndebourne Festival and English Opera Group. He had discovered Pilates at L.C.D.T. and subsequently then trained as a teacher under Alan Herdmann who brought the technique to England from America over 30 years ago. He set up his first studio in Covent Garden at the Urdang Academy then at Pineapple Dance in Covent Garden and South Kensington. He then moved into Wayne Sleep studios in South Kensington in 1991 were he is still currently teaching. He has introduced Pilates in all forms of Sport especially Football, Rugby, Tennis, Cricket and Rowing. He has been a co-author for 10 Pilates books, been a fitness consultant for various Magazines, Videos and DVD’s.

Merou is an experienced qualified football coach whose main duties are to plan and deliver training sessions, provide valuable feedback on players performance, injury prevention, advise players on how to maintain a positive mental attitude-self-discipline and discussing strategies/tactics with the Romans manager.

Emma, Sports Masseuse

Emma  

Emma is a student training to be a sports masseuse. She will be working with our team on match days and will be assisting with any injuries.  She will also be happy to see any team member that would like to see her for work on an injury or just a general sports massage. Emma is kindly offering all her services free of charge for members of London Romans FC and has a room and table available based at Alexandra Palace. Please contact the General Manager at romansfc@hotmail.co.uk if you would like to arrange a session or if you have any questions for Emma.  Emma hopes to hear from you all soon.

Alistair "AL", Webmaster

Alistair with shorter hair!  

Alistair is responsible for the maintenance and development of the London Romans FC website/facebook group and he can be found with his camera taking pictures at most matches. He has a keen interest in fitness/sport (gym/pilates/football/martial arts) and his quote of the day is "don't stay in".
